Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar of its purpose. It is often believed that it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. However, this is not true. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa the city of Ontario. She wanted to become professional, however due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet and 1 inch." When I reached the height of all my male partners then I stopped. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and in the instance of Brugel, it was the result of a recommendation by her teacher in drama. It was her teacher who suggested she audition as Anne in their annual school production. She tried out and ended up playing the role of the main character for the role in Anne of Green Gables. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Her career spans 20 years and she's performed in more than 60 shows that have screened on large screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was as Rita (pictured beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian member.
